Lyrics
Verse 1
What kind of world do we reside (reside)
Despair and sorrow, fear in the nighttime (nighttime)
Falling tears from a silent sky Love has become so weak
Chorus
Father of mercy, hear our cry, Lift us up, don’t pass us by
Send your son to bring the light, Guide us through the darkness, night
Verse 2
What kind of world do we reside.
hearts are yearning, peace seems so distant
Hope seems so fleeting, can still believe Love has endured through the time
Chorus
Father of mercy, grant us peace, In your love, our fears release
Send your son to show the way, Lead us to a brighter day
What kind of world do we reside.
Bridge
With faith we’ll overcome in your mercy We’ll find peace through your mercy, Lord
Bring us redemption, peace
Chorus
Father of mercy, heal our pain, In your arms, we’ll rise again
Send your son to end the strife, Guide us to eternal life
Father of mercy, still our fears, Dry our eyes and calm our tears
Send your son to bring us grace, Lead us to a peaceful place
The story about the song
A Cry for Mercy was born out of watching the world around us.
Every day we hear about wars, innocent people fleeing their homes, children growing up in fear, earthquakes, floods, storms, and a creation that seems to groan under the weight of human suffering. It is easy to feel powerless and to wonder where hope can be found.
This song is not a political statement. It is a prayer. It is the cry of ordinary people who look beyond themselves and ask God for mercy, peace, and healing. It reminds us that even when darkness seems overwhelming, it never has the final word. The Christian hope is not built on human strength but on God’s love and the promise that Jesus is the Light of the world.
As long as people continue to suffer, this prayer will remain relevant. May it encourage you to lift your eyes to the Father of mercy, who hears every cry and whose love is greater than our deepest fears.
”The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
Biblical reflection
We live in a world where darkness often seems overwhelming. Fear and sorrow grip our hearts, and hope can feel distant. Yet in the midst of the storm, there is a voice calling us home—a Father who never abandons His children.
A Cry for Mercy is a prayer born out of that reality. It is the cry of hearts longing for God’s mercy, peace, and light in a broken world. We call upon the Father, asking Him to shine His light into our darkest night. The One who sent His Son to save the world has not forgotten us. He is still at work today, guiding His people through every trial and every season of life.
”Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I cry to You all day long. Rejoice the soul of Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.”
— Psalm 86:3–5
As we look around, we see conflict, suffering, and uncertainty. Yet our hope is not rooted in circumstances but in the unchanging character of God. His mercy has sustained His people throughout history, and His love remains forever.
”The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
— Psalm 103:8
The greatest expression of God’s mercy is Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, He opened the way for every person to be forgiven, restored, and reconciled to the Father. His invitation still stands today: ”Come to Me.”
As you listen to this song, let it become your own prayer. Lift your heart to the Father of mercy. He hears every cry, wipes away every tear, and walks beside those who trust in Him.
”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, ”plans for your welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
— Jeremiah 29:11
May His peace guard your heart, His mercy strengthen your soul, and His light lead you safely home.
